Making Green by Selling Green
Member Price: $10
Instructor: Linda Olson

In today’s world with the largest home-buying generation in history putting a priority on energy efficiency, walkable commu-nities, and smart homes this course will help you to become a more specialized, effective real estate professional. In this course, you will learn to distinguish between different “green” concepts so you can teach your customers how they can live an “ecoconscious” lifestyle within any budget.

The course provides “green” renovation options such as xeriscaping, Energy Star appliances, and solar products. We will go over practical things anyone can do to make their home more energy efficient and sustainable; things that are inexpensive to implement but could result in significant savings. Once you as a real estate pro-fessional, know how to recognize these features in a home (or ask the right questions to highlight energy efficient aspects of a house) you can use this information as a marketing tool for sell-ing and as selling points for a Buyer.

At the end of this class, you will also be able to advise Buyers on retrofits or remodels they can make to an older home to make it more resource effi-cient. In addition, by emphasizing the importance of accurate identification and description of these features you will learn marketing techniques that will keep you from violating NAR’s Code of Ethics.

Linda Olson

Linda Olson is a Realtor with D. Basile Real Estate, LLC in Melbourne, Florida. Linda specializes in all non-residential property types, especially vacant land throughout Brevard County.

Linda brings a unique perspective to the real estate field as she also has 20 plus years of experience as an environmental consultant. This allows her to offer specialized services regarding the intricacy of determining the developability of a property and to provide advice as to how to optimize a property's use in relation to environmental concerns. Linda also uses this expertise to assist Owners to set a competitive price that considers what a Buyer may need to do to develop the land. In addition, she helps Buyers to negotiate a better price on the purchase of land as she can assist them to determine the costs of improving the property such as completing environmental studies, assessing impacts, and providing mitigation.

During both Linda's environmental and real estate careers, for more than 10 years, she was actively involved with the local Home Builders and Contractors Association. The additional knowledge that she gained from this association and the contacts she has with builders, remodelers, and distributors of products gives her unique information and insight into "green" building techniques for improving a home's energy efficiency.
